Director’s Message

This past year has been  a busy and very productive year for the Westside Community Center.  The Board of Directors and the leadership team have been hard at work representing the interest of WCC and providing direction as we continue to look for better ways to serve the community.  We expect some of these efforts to be realized this year; however, we anticipate that some of the projects we are working with today will need more time to reach fruition.

We are very proud of the progress being made by the many programs and services being provided in the Center.  They continue to make significant progress.  Much of our focus this year, however, has been aimed at completion of the gymtorium, which officially opened in December 5, 2003, with the production of “Babes in Toyland” a full theater production featuring twenty-five Anderson area students.  The play was very entertaining and well received by the audience.  In addition, the little league basketball season, in partnership with the City of Anderson’s Recreation Department, was a success.  Numerous events are now being scheduled in the gymtorium, making it a valuable resource for the community.  In conjuction with DHEC, we continue to develop the community park which is scheduled for opening in June, 2004. Other projects, such as the installation of a SC Fence Garden, the after-school homework center, the purchase and installation of WCC signage, the enhancement and growth of the computer lab, are on-going.

As we continue to move forward into 2004, we are very much aware of the difficult economic times that everyone is facing.  WCC is no different. Yet, in spite of these difficulties, WCC continues to persevere in the fulfillment of our mission of making a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve.
